The University of the Philippines has long been known as having housed, nurtured and educated some of the country’s most liberal-minded students. It’s a big reason why I’m not surprised that a transgender individual is running for the highest office in the council. What’s more surprising to me is that it took this long for someone with enough guts to do it.

I may not be part of UP’s voting population, but I know well enough what it’s like to be part of that student body. Liberal minds, leftist thinkers, those wanting change - I think it’s about time people stop being pretentious. If Heart is capable of carrying out her platform, why not vote for her?

I commend Heart for standing up for what SHE believes in and staying true to HERSELF. I respect HER bravery for going up against the standard. What is the standard anyway but a limit to what one would perceive to be capable of?
